CNN reports that John Eisenberg, who led the department’s National Security Division, also announced his resignation November 6, and Harmeet Dhillon left her post as the head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division on Thursday. John Eisenberg, the assistant attorney general in charge of DOJ’s national security division, resigned November 6, according to two people familiar with the matter who were granted anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly, Politico reports. Attorney General Todd Blanche made the announcement onX Friday that US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Jason A. Reding Quiñones had submitted his resignation, part of a slate of high-profile resignation at the Justice Department this week following massive midterm losses by Republicans, NBC News reports. Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the departure of the prosecutor, Jason A. Reding Quiñones of the Southern District of Florida, on social media, The New York Times reports. Quiñones was behind the effort to use a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida, to pursue investigations of former government officials who were involved in probes of Trump and his campaign from 2016 to 2024, CNN reports. Reding Quiñones, the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, also oversaw an investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan and other federal officials who scrutinized Trump during his first campaign and presidential administration, including probes into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia in 2016 and the president’s effort to overturn the 2020 election, Politico reports.
CNN reports that the turnover at the Justice Department had been expected for weeks for a variety of reasons. Joe diGenova, who worked under Reding Quiñones in the Southern District of Florida, resigned in September, and blamed officials from Justice Department headquarters with stepping in and trying to take over the investigation, NBC News reports. Two top Justice Department officials resigned November 6, including the assistant attorney general for national security, just a day after the department’s civil rights division chief departed her post, Politico reports. Mr. Reding Quiñones did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but he thanked Mr. Trump on social media, The New York Times reports. According to The New York Times and NYT, “I am grateful to President Trump for his trust and to the extraordinary men and women of the great Southern District of Florida for their dedication, friendship, and unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law,” he wrote. The Florida operative generally shunned the limelight, The Irish Times reports. At Trump’s 2024 election night victory party, she repeatedly shook her head and avoided the microphone as Trump tried to coax her to speak to the crowd, The Irish Times reports.
