Jerusalem Post reports that their participation was an expression of Israeli democracy. According to Politico, only 1 in 5 said they saw the campaign as justified, whereas approximately half — 48% — either said that the Israeli campaign in Gaza was never justified or that it had initially been justified before going too far. Yet nearly half of Americans said either that they had no opinion of Netanyahu (20%) or that their view of him was neither positive nor negative (28%). According to Politico, just 15% said they had heard of Eisenkot, a former chief of staff of the Israeli military. Parties had argued over October 7, Gaza, Iran, the courts, haredi (ultra-Orthodox) conscription, settlements, the economy, and the character of the state itself, Jerusalem Post reports. Parties representing Israelis of Arab descent would win 17, a record, following high turnout from passionately motivated voters, Reuters reports. Broad participation brought more citizens into the decision about the next Knesset and gave more people a direct part in shaping the country's direction.Israelis from across society exercise their equal right to voteThat included Arab citizens, whose turnout attracted intense political attention during the day, Jerusalem Post reports. Jerusalem Post reports that on Tuesday, millions of Israelis acted on that belief. This edition of The POLITICO Poll was conducted by PF Global from October 24-27, surveying 2,083 US adults online, Politico reports.

Politico and Reuters agree that with around 77.6% of votes tallied on Wednesday morning, Israeli media forecast Netanyahu’s bloc of right-wing, far-right and ultra-Orthodox parties winning 54 seats in parliament, far surpassing 49 for the opposition bloc of rival Gadi Eisenkot.

Still developing

Reuters reports that the results could still change as counting continued, but a victory for Eisenkot appeared increasingly out of reach, as his bloc of anti-Netanyahu parties from centre-left to hard-right underperformed pre-election polls that forecast a tight race.
