Trump plans to campaign most days in October as Republicans try to hold Congress

Advisers told CNN they hold little hope of winning over independents and swing voters, so the plan depends on getting base voters to the polls, and one adviser described the best outcome as a repeat of 2022, when Democrats lost the House but held the Senate. CNN also reports that the Senate Leadership Fund raised its Texas spending to $100 million to back Ken Paxton, and that several Republican candidates have taken Trump references off their campaign websites. The party line stays firm: “President Trump is the unequivocal leader, best messenger, and unmatched motivator for the Republican Party, and he is committed to maintaining Republican majorities in Congress,” said Ingle, according to CNN.
The Washington Post turns to prices, which it calls the top concern among midterm voters. It reports that Trump offered every adult American a $5,000 dividend if Republicans keep both chambers on November 3, a proposal that could cost more than $1 trillion as the national debt passes $40 trillion. The Post cites a YouGov poll in which 64 percent of US adults expected they would probably or definitely miss out on the payment, and a CNN poll by SSRS in which 73 percent disapprove of Trump's handling of the economy. Patterson said, “Actions taken today might help in the medium and longer term. But between now and the election, the best you can hope for is that voters appreciate that you’re trying.”
