Iran rejects U.S. sanctions as global overreach

Iran's foreign ministry says new U.S. sanctions assert extraterritorial sovereignty over every U.N. member state, as Washington promises sweeping economic isolation.

The remarks followed President Donald Trump's promise of the "most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country", plus financial penalties on any government that helps Tehran evade the sanctions. Bessent vowed the United States would build "the greatest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world", and Vice President JD Vance called economic pressure the country's "most effective tool" against Iran.
